| Press commentaries:
VARIETY New York / 1993-02-21 ..... Played brilliantly by Uwe Kroeger,
Death commands the stage and radiates a vibrant combination of enigmatic
threat and erotic energy. .....
The Japan Times, Tokyo ..... Death's prancing performance brought
the most Viennese toe tapping. Even the critics liked him best. .....
Neue Musik Zeitung / September 1992 ..... Uwe Kroeger proved himself to be
a long lasting and impressive musical personality in the role of Death.
Drifting intonation-sure on a narrow burr between U and E music, with a
sure stylistic sense for the intentional interpretation for one of the
voices, which appear to be predestined for the new forms of musical.
Heilbronner Stimme / 1992-09-05 ..... Michael Kunze conjured a figure up on the stage through the personification of „Death“, who’s the real starling of the evening. Uwe Kroeger was brilliant as the demanding lover of the empress - once in white, once in black Glitter satin suit wanders like a ghost through the scenes and attracts his victims and audience. Theatrical gestures in contrast with rigid
facial expressions, the versatile voice - regardless of whether in quiet
or highest excitement - always obtained it’s effect.
Österreichische Musikzeitschrift / October 1992 ..... Her partner is less the emperor Franz
Joseph (Viktor Gernot, who succeeds to bring out the maximum out of this
passively conceived figure) but rather the „Death“, the most easily remembered
figure of the show: a young man with a long mane who wons Elisabeth's love,
who repeatedly crosses pathes with her and at long last wins her over for
himself. Uwe Kroeger, impressive in appearance and voice, won over the
audience from his first step on stage . .....
Profil / 1992-09-07 ..... The Death takes Sissi, with whom
he had danced with and is in love with her downfall, into his arms. The
Death, Uwe Kroeger, the androgyner type with blowy blonde hair. He turns
out to be most interesting figure of the evening - not only as singer.
He is a narcissist, a hero of postmodernism. Behind his beautiful appearance,
emptiness lies waiting - and for him there’s no future. .....
Malcolm Rutherford / announcement unknown / September 1992 ..... Dominant, however, is "The Phantom
of the Opera", from which the figure of Death seems to be partly drawn.
Played by Uwe Kroeger with flowing blonde hair, this is a striking if melodramatic
performance: rather like the whole show - corny, but effective. .....
Krone / 1992-09-04 ..... the most convincing main actor is
Death, effectively commanded by Uwe Kroeger! Everyone wilts in his embrace
- crown prince Rudolf, the empress, the monarchy. He plays all of them
his song of Death! .....
Hartel F. Sinhuber / announcement unknown / September 1992 ..... Kunzes dramatic strategy determines
the Death as Elisabeths real partner, a beautiful, fair-haired juvenile
(Uwe Kroeger), a relentless lover of evil, tender and then again cold,
who freezes all liking to ice.
Die Welt / 1992-09-05 ..... The Death acts better than any of
them: The pale blonde Uwe Kroeger from Hamm in Westphalia. .....
Nürnberger Zeitung / 1992-09-05 ..... From the main actors the Dutchwoman
did a good job, but the Death, played by the young Uwe Kroeger, remains
in every aspect to be the winner. .....
Rheinische Post / 1992-09-05 ..... the permanent companion of the empress,
impressive Uwe Kroeger is not to be diminished .....
Klaus Grubo / announcement unknown / September 1992 ..... The main actors - most of them musically
proven - are of international origin, however they form a homogeneous
ensemble. First place for Uwe Kroeger from Hamm in Westphalia as the fair-haired
seductive Death. .....
